Omalos
About 38 kilometers west of Chania town, after a drive thought the fragrant orange trees that populate the area, the Omalos Plateau stands between 1000 and 1200 meters above the sea level and offers a fantastic view of the White Mountains (Lefka Ori). It’s from Omalos that adventurous hikers depart to face the 14 km walk along the gorge of Samaria. Even if you don’t intend to walk the gorge, a visit to Omalos will reward you. Lake Agias
Lake Agia is a manmade lake in the Chania region which was originally built to function as a water supply for the island. The small lake is home to a numerous variety of local flora and fauna and a very tranquil place to enjoy a refreshing drink in the afternoon. The lake is connected to the valley of Fassa, the dampest in Crete. The whole wetland is a natural refuge for migratory birds and a place of ecological importance protected by different international treaties.
